clearing clutter

finally
i cleared off
the kitchen table today
between christmas and new year’s

unsorted mail
unfinished crafts
remains of wrapping paper
school projects unceremoniously dumped 
christmas cards still destined for loved ones
hand-painted seashells from the shores of siesta key

alchemy of 
year-past treasures
present-day holiday extravaganza
hoped-for connections still to come

as we gathered 
round the table over dinner
shoulders straighten with ease
lungs fill with an expansive depth
and the conversations flow spacious and free
